Certified Medical Assistant

Sutter Health

This is a Contract position in Los Banos, CA posted October 20, 2020.

Provides basic administrative, clerical and technical support services under the supervision of a licensed provider for the Rural Health Clinic patients and their families. Assists the physician or nurse practitioners in implementing the medical care plan to include obtaining history and physical, accurate vital signs, medication administration, tests and procedures, phone calls, scheduling and obtaining authorizations.

Serving Merced County Westside area with 48 care beds, the facility is part of Memorial Hospitals Association and Sutter Health, a not-for-profit organization that exists to maintain and improve the health status of citizens in its geographic area. Memorial Hospital Los Banos provides and promotes effective inpatient and outpatient health care services including 24-hour Emergency Care, Rural Health Clinic, Surgery, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Diagnostics Imaging, and Intensive Care Unit and Physical Therapy.

Qualifications :


  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of an approved Medical Assisting program with possession of a current certificate or registration as Medical Assistant through any of the following organizations: the California Certified Medical Assistants (CCMA), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), OR the ability to obtain certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • No experience is required.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers card is required.
  • Current driver’s license, valid and in state, and able to provide proof of automobile insurance.


  • Six (6) months to two (2) years experience as a medical assistant in a clinic setting
  • Ability to type 35 wpm.


  • Excellent customer service skills are required for this position
  • Ability to read, write, hear and verbally communicate in English to the degree required to perform the job.
  • Competency in basic Medical Assisting skills such as medication administration, chart documentation, taking vital signs, preparing patients for exam, performing basic testing such as finger sticks, etc.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and demands on time, while remaining calm.
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of what constitutes a medical emergency requiring a physician or licensed nurse’s attention.
  • Knowledge of scope of practice of a Medical Assistant.
  • Knowledge and understanding of medication administration and Dosage calculation skills as proven by successful completion of medication test.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of computers and their applications. Ability to learn and Successfully utilize the electronic health record
  • Ability to efficiently operate office equipment, i.e. fax, photocopy machine, etc
