Certified Substance Abuse (Drug & Alcohol) Counselor

This is a Contract position in American Canyon, CA posted September 14, 2020.

House of Acts is currently recruiting for several substanceabuse treatment counselors.

These counselors are: full-time and part-time, non-exempt positions, reporting to the Program Director, and are based in multiple locations throughout Vallejo, CA.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Practice Social Model Philosophy.

Provide substance abuse counseling and recovery skills; facilitates the client’s orientation, educational and individual and process counseling groups in compliance with program standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Follow program procedure and assist residents in the admission process.

Interviews, screens, and evaluates clients for potential program participation.

Conduct group therapy, individual counseling and family counseling.

Facilitate group process and house meetings, as well as 1-on-1 sessions.

Facilitate group curriculum (i.e.

Matrix Model, Evidence-Based) and 12-Step.

Develop individualized treatment plans, for clients assigned to him/her.

Read and write assessments, treatment plan, and case notes.

Execute client charting and progress notes.

Chart records accurately.

Mentor, train, and supervise employees, interns, and volunteers.

Relate on a peer level, in a supportive non-judgmental manner with clients.

Supervise several men in Sober Living Environment (SLE).

Conduct drug/alcohol urinalyses testing and intake procedures.

Proactive and positive role model.

Make decisions in crisis and stressful situations.

Community education and outreach.

Ability to assume authority regarding intake and dismissal.

Responsible for terms of program daily schedule.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one-year work experience in the Drug and Alcohol counseling field.

Strongly recommend 32 hours per year of ADS studies.

Proficient knowledge operating personal computers and various software.

Follow instructions and adaptability to change.

Work with all genders, cultures, and be sensitive to the needs of residents.

Work as a reliable team member and perform operational tasks.

Knowledgeable of community and program referrals.

Excellent time management, organizational, communication (written/oral) skills, along with the appropriate dress.

REQUIREMENTS: Security clearance.

Graduate from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.

Four or more year’s continuous sobriety of alcoholic or addict.

Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CCAPP) (CATPT) or other equivalent (certified or RADT).

Must possess active driver’s license and reliable (vehicle) transportation.

Valid DMV printout, proof of auto insurance, vehicle registration.

Must be available for emergencies.

Must adhere to the House of Acts Code of Ethics & Staff Agreement.

POST-HIRE REQUIREMENTS: Live Scan Pass CPR, First Aid Training, Medical and TB Clearance.

Two-week training period for new counselors.

180-day probation period.

Six-month evaluation will be performed, if the evaluation is satisfactory, a pay increase will be considered.

Subsequent to initial six-month evaluation, all evaluations thereafter will be performed annually.
