Today our retirement community is staffed by devoted caregivers who are Activity directors, Registered Nurses, Certified Nurse Assistants, and Social Workers who work diligently with the administration to provide the highest quality of healthy living to our residents.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Director of Nursing assists the Director of Nursing with planning, organizing, directing, and scheduling nursing services and with supervising the nursing staff to ensure an optimum level of nursing care is delivered and maintained in accordance with established policies, procedures, and practices that are in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. He or she reports to the Director of Nursing (DON) and/or to the Administrator in the DON’s absence.

The ideal candidate is a Registered Nurse with a current registration and/or license in the state of California. In addition, he or she must have Geriatric or Skilled Nursing experience and good writing and computer skills to maintain required documentation and assessments. He or she can direct and coordinate the activities of others, provide a motivating influence on subordinates and peers, and take ownership in management decisions. Effective oral and written skills, empathy and the ability to listen, good time management skills, and professional dress, speech, and behavior are all required for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serves as Floor Supervisor and ensures that the nursing staff perform their duties in a safe manner, follow policy and procedures, and use their time in an efficient manner
• Serves as Infection Control Nurse and ensures that infection control and universal procedures are followed by staff and maintains infection control manual and reports
• Maintains decubitus records and oversees treatment nurse regarding policy and procedures, physician orders, and maintenance of decubitus
• Attends designated meetings as required and serves on committees when requested
• Attends and participates in continuing education programs designed to keep the staff abreast of changes in the profession and maintains current licensure
• Serves as on-call nurse as scheduled
• Assists DON with other duties as assigned
• In the absence of the DON, works with the Medical Director and Administrator to ensure that the optimum level of nursing care is delivered and maintained in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations

QUALIFICATIONS

• Registered Nurse with a current registration and/or license in the state of California
• Geriatric or Skilled Nursing experience required
• Good writing and computer skills to maintain required documentation and assessments
• Able to deal tactfully with residents, families, government officials, and staff
• Good communication skills and knowledge of principles and methods for in-service training and instruction of nursing and other personnel
• Knowledge of Skilled Nursing care practices and procedures and all laws, regulations, and guidelines
• Supervisory and leadership skills and a willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional staff
• Able to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care
• May be exposed to infectious waste and disease (including HBV and HIV)
• Able to move throughout the nursing facility during the workday and to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
• Able to cope with emotional and hostile residents, families, guests, staff, and other visitors
• Able to work after regular work hours, on holidays, and on weekends and to work a rotating shift and/or other shifts as required by the Director of Nursing and/or the Administrator
