Manager, Stack Room Large Component Integration

Aerojet Rocketdyne (AR) offers a complete line of propulsion products from launch vehicles to missile defense, which have been used in a wide variety of government and commercial applications, including the main engines for the Space Shuttle, Atlas and Delta launch vehicles, and High Altitude Defense Systems.

We are seeking an experienced leader to join us as our day shift manager for our large combustion Nozzle assembly integration area, utilizing tube stacking of rocket engine nozzles, application of braze foiling, fit-up of tubes, chambers, throats, rings, and other mating components prior to furnace bonding, weld, or cryogenic joining operations.  This position is at our Space Systems headquarters in Canoga Park, CA.

This position may be filled at this level posted or one level higher.

This position is responsible for directing the daily activities within the stack room and furnace work centers located at the Aerojet Rocketdyne Los Angeles (ARLA) site. All hourly technicians and salaried operations technical support will report directly to the manager. In addition, in-process quality inspection hourly personnel will take daily direction from the manager to determine priority of work assignments, and ensure timely work center execution.


This position is a direct report to the Director, Strategic Fabrication Center.


25% – Managing direct labor charging to ensure regulatory compliance. Managing work assignments to maximize the utilization of resources, meet delivery requirements, and achieve efficiency targets. Maintaining employee training, certifications, and critical skills. Analyzing cost & quality drivers to identify cause(s) and implement corrective actions.


30% – Directing daily work assignments within the work centers to meet quality, cost, and schedule commitments. Leading cross-functional team members to interpret hardware processing requirements. Coordinating technical support to ensure hardware velocity. Maintaining tooling and work center readiness (calibration, preventative maintenance plans).


15% – Identifying, reporting, and eliminating unsafe acts & unsafe conditions within the work centers. Leading relentless root cause analysis investigations while striving for mistake-proof Level 1 corrective and preventive actions.


30% – Developing strategies and implementing actions to achieve safety, quality, cost, and performance improvement goals; regular application of Lean manufacturing tools and techniques to continuously improve processes.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline and seven (7) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.


Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful candidates will have direct experience in manufacturing, production and/or production support systems.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to organize and complete projects, objectives, and tasks. 
  • Must be capable of leading a diverse team and collaborating in a cross-functional organization to deliver results. 
  • The ability to adapt in a dynamically changing environment is also a necessary skill for this position. 
  • Must be proficient with utilizing Microsoft Office software suite.
  • Experience working in clean rooms and managing FOD elimination/FOD controls is preferred.
  • Experience working in a bargaining unit environment is also desired.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

The work environment includes managing resources daily in a shop environment. Safety glasses, steel-toed shoes are required in these areas. Additional personal protective equipment may be required. The position includes a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting. Work duties also require working in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
